At the AAIE Conference Grape Roundtable I show slides about distinguishing sulfur damage from thrips damage in table grapes. I have more information in two articles on my page: https://sites.google.com/site/devinipminfo/ Sulfur causes "false thrips scars" in grapes. Stamen-Anther Scarring in Grapes; Not Caused by Thrips. The articles also give evidence that sulfur does cause damage. In my thirty years of monitoring table grapes, I have seen far more sulfur damage than thrips damage. A lot of thripicide sprays are unnecessary, and also disrupt biocontrol of other pests such as mealybugs.

I invite you to explore my webpage, IPM Information by Devin Carroll, https://sites.google.com/site/devinipminfo/ . I document observations I have made in 30 plus years of pest management in grapes, citrus, tree nuts and fruit, and other crops. Handbooks on specialty crop IPM, including persimmons, pomegranates and blueberries. Guides to biology of spiders and ants. Lots about biocontrol of mealybugs in grapes, and diseases that can be seen in grape buds.
